TALENT: Matthew Roher

Story

Since September 2016 Matthew has held the position of Resort Executive Chef for Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. With his extensive and distinguished experience he oversees the culinary program for all of the resorts many facilities, from the acclaimed Sea Pines Beach Club and the award winning golf club food & beverage operations to being the culinary host for the annual PGA tournament, the RBC Heritage, held every spring at the Harbor Town Golf Links.

 

Prior to that, Matthew served as Senior Executive Chef For The Landings Club in Savannah, GA where he oversaw the diverse concepts, kitchens and teams that comprised The Landings Club Culinary Program. With four distinct year round clubhouses and nearly 70 culinary professionals, he relished in his role of providing an exciting, fresh and healthy range of food programs for all the diverse membership tastes.

 

Matthew is a graduate of the prestigious French Culinary Institute in New York. Throughout his career Matthew has held positions that include: Restaurant Associates; Tropica and World Financial Center, NYC, MezzaLuna Restaurant Company NYC; Atlanta, Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, Atlanta. He has introduced, advised and supported, numerous local food purveyors and initiatives all the while partnering with a wide range of local charities and fundraisers through his numerous in-kind donations or as a chef participant.

 

Some of Matthews other career highlights include realizing his childhood dream of restaurant ownership by opening Cha Bella Restaurant in 2007 one of the highest rated restaurants in the southeast. Chef Matt followed up with a number of innovative, sustainable minded concepts including Earth to Table Catering, Avondale Farm, and Farmbox Savannah, all of which enjoyed both critical and popular acclaim.

 

Over the years, Matthew's awards have included:

Matthew is married to local Savannah dentist Dr. Carla H. Roher and they have two children, Emily Brooke and Matthew Fraser.

Whiskey, Wine & Wildlife is a culinary destination weekend with collaboration between The Westin Jekyll Island, the Jekyll Island Authority and The AdFish Group.  The weekend’s events will raise funds and awareness for programs of the Jekyll Island Foundation, with a mission of conservation, education and historic preservation efforts on Jekyll Island.
